long nails

I have long nails,long nails

They are a bit untidy now some, need a quick file, these grow fast, so I guess ithat I am lucky, however i work in the areas of art, and enjoy ceramic work and gardening, abhor wearing rubber, gloves when doing any of these things, in the case of art and ceramics, it just isn’t feasible, and in the instance of gardening, its so much harder to get a grip on the weeds.

Also half the time I can’t find them. (The gloves that is)

I decided to clean them up last night, Maincured them the French way, using white on the tips after shaping, and then applied soft pink over the whole nail.

They looked brilliant, by the end of the day, probably not so great. The other option is acrylic or gel nails.

Although nail sculpture is an option using acrylic, they place a shape under the nail and build layers of acrylic up to nail level and then a coat over, This would be more likely to snap off, placing greater tension at the tip of the nail.

The general method is to prime the healthy nail scraping it back, making it amiable to the acrylic coating, a large shape is applied first, called the tip , these are around 1″ long, and allow for the amount of length a client would like. Most people have them reasonably short. Next a coat of acrylic is applied by using a liquid and a powder technique which creates, the acyrilic false nail , A type of resin, this thick layer goes over the whole nail tip and all. Nail the perfect at-home manicure!

Pampering yourself with a manicure gets great results–beautiful hands. But while getting one in a salon is a treat, it can get expensive. We’ll show you how to do a manicure at home, so you’ll not only save money, but you’ll also be able to get an appointment any time.

Getting Start::

Regular manicures can help restore the health of damaged nails and discourage nail biting. So no matter what condition your nails are in, they’ll benefit from a manicure.

If you want to apply polish as part of your manicure, schedule enough time to let the polish dry–at least 30 minutes. Nothing ruins self-pampering more than frustration, and if you have to sit still when you need to be doing something else–or you nick or dent freshly applied polish–you’re sure to be frustrated.

At-home manicures require an initial investment in tools and polish. But it’s all fairly inexpensive and can be purchased at beauty supply or drug stores. You’ll find that after two at-home manicures, you will have more than covered your costs when compared to the expense of salon manicures. Continue reading »

The nails help protect the end of fingers and toes from trauma as well as to help pick up small objects. Over the last century, nails have become more focused on cosmetic reasons and less focused on protection. Manicuring is the care of hands and nails. Basic manicuring should be done at least once a week.

These are the steps to take for a simple do-it-yourself (regular) home manicure:
1. Remove the old nail polish
2. Shape the nails:
»~tilt the emery board so that the filing is confined mainly to the underside of the free edge Continue reading »

When you’re doing a manicure, don’t cut your cuticles (they grow back thicker), instead gently push them back when they are softened. Also, don’t use a razor to shave your heels when you get a pedicure (same problem..grows thicker), instead soak well and use a pumice.

Moving the nail file back and forth will make your nails split. It’s better to just hold the nail file at an angle and then file in one direction, starting from the left corner going to the center, and then the right corner going to the center. Using short strokes also prevents you from filing away too much.

A manicure is a beauty treatment which involves soaking the hands in softening substances and massaging the hands while filing, shaping and polishing the nails.

DO

1. Protect your nails from getting polish stains by applying a thin layer of clear base coat. This will also help your polish last longer and help you avoid a streaky finish.

2. Gently roll the nail polish in your palms to distribute color before slicking on a coat.

3. A pedicure is similar to a manicure but works to improve the appearance of the feet.

4. “There are some germs that hide in the nail plate which simple washing many times may not get rid of, especially with long nails.

DON’T:

1. Never soak dehydrated natural nails in water or have a water-based manicure! Instead, ask for a hot oil based manicure.
2. Never cut your cuticles, or allow someone to. It is okay to remove a dead tag of skin, but cutting live tissue is simply not recommended.
3. Don’t overbuff the natural nail! Buffing of the nails can be done about once a month, provided that a very fine buffer is used.
4. Never, ever rip or pull nail enhancements off, as this will be very damaging to the natural nail. If you no longer wish to have them, ask your nail professional to remove them the correct way.

  •  Make sure you have a very clean nail plate before applying polish. The natural oils on your nail, lotion or a piece of cotton fiber will make the polish peel. I like to strip the nails by swabbing them with Sea Breeze or nail polish remover.
  • Always use a base coat and top coat. It’s sometimes tempting to skip them if you’re in a hurry. But remember, it’s not worth it if your polish chips faster. The base coat acts as a foundation for your manicure, and the top coat is a protectant for your polish.
  • Let each coat dry for a couple of minutes before applying another. This allows the polish to set so the next layer adheres better.
  • Wear gloves whenever you do a job in water or dirt: dishes, cleaning, gardening.
  • Try not to use your nails as tools. Concentrate on using the pads of your fingers and not the tips of your fingers when you reach, grab, hold and type.

Soften, smooth and soothe hands by indulging in luxurious spa manicure.
“A spa manicure is a treatment beyond a regular manicure,” explains Jan Arnold, president of Creative Nail Design. “The service offers deep exfoliation and a facial-quality moisturizing of the hands.”
Arnold says during a traditional service, the focus is on cleaning the nails-tidying the cuticles, then filing and polishing the nails. With a spa manicure, nails are filed, buffed, then soaked in an aromatic cleansing solution. Next, hands are thoroughly exfoliated from the wrist down, followed by a gentle massage up to the elbows. The cuticles are tidied, then your nails are ready for polishing. Continue reading »

Nails should complement your hand size and cuticle shape.

“Fashion is showing very long, pointed nails this season, but this dramatic length and shape isn’t for everyone,” says Katherine Gon, owner of Graham Road Nail & Body in St. Albert, Alberta, and an educator for OPI. “Nails should be tailored to suit each individual, regardless of what fashion dictates.” Continue reading »

Believe it or not, people have been manicuring their nails for more than 4,000 years. In southern Babylonia, noblemen used solid gold tools to give themselves manicures and pedicures. The use of fingernail polish can be traced back even further. Originating in China in 3,000 BC, nail color indicated one’s social status — according to a Ming dynasty manuscript, royal fingernails were painted black and red. The Egyptians also colored their nails, using red to show the highest social class. It is said that Cleopatra’s nails were painted a deep red, whereas Queen Nefertiti went with a flashier ruby shade. In ancient Egypt and Rome, military commanders also painted their nails to match their lips before they went off to battle. Continue reading »

Always treat your nails as if you’ve just had them polished. Instead of using your nails for the daily exercise of scraping, picking, pulling and opening, use the pads of your fingertips. Along with preventing splitting, chipping and breaking, this will make your hands look more elegant. When cleaning the house and doing the dishes, be sure to wear gloves; prolonged exposure to water can cause nail damage because it will dry out your skin and nails. Tips to prevent nail polish chipping: reapply the top coat regularly, even daily, and try to avoid using fast-drying polishes that don’t last as long as regular nail polishes.

Brittle Nails
Brittle nails can be caused by sun exposure, a poor diet or the prolonged use of commercial nail hardeners. Avoid the use of hardeners containing formaldehyde, which has a drying effect on nails, and try using a waterproof coating that seals moisture in the nail and repels water and dirt. Believe it or not, a waxy lip balm can be quite effective at softening nails.

Hangnails
Picking and biting your nails, exposure to detergents and chemicals or general nail neglect are all causes of hangnails. Use a sharp cuticle nipper to remove existing hangnails. (A dull, cheap cuticle nipper will not allow you to get at the hangnails and may create more damage.) To help prevent hangnails altogether, use massage cuticle oil, lotion or cream at least once a day. If your cuticles are a painful mess, apply moisturizer twice daily. Continue reading »
