Habits of a Successful Nail Technail technicians

Not all nail technicians are created equal. While nail technicians both successful and not so successful all have one goal in mind…. to make a career out of what they love doing… Some nail techs just know exactly what it takes to bring in clients and keep them coming year after year… and others are not sure.

However, all hope is not lost for nail techs struggling to make their passion a career. Simply following the footsteps of a successful nail tech will put a struggling nail technician on the road to success.

There is no magic formula to making money as a nail tech. It’s not even about how great your nail art designs are or how great your pedicures are. It’s all in how you market yourself and your services!

A successful Nail Technician will always have a balance of Sales and Marketing and Nail Application. These 2 together will put any nail tech ahead of the competition. A nail tech that knows how to market her/his business will out grow and crush the nail tech that is only good at nail designs, acrylic application ..etc.! Continue reading »

It’s that time again. Time for shorts and flip flops. String bikinis and Cami tops. It’s time for manicures and pedicures. Having a perfectly toned body with ripped abs is great. I would love to have them. However, since most of us are not able to spend from dawn to dusk at the gym and still want to look our best, we rely on our small, but very noticeable, nails to give us that little something extra. Of course, if the six pack abs came with the perfect polish we’d all be a little happier. Before you spend hours searching for the most amazing nail salon possible, do a little research. Discount nail salons often lure their unsuspecting clients in with the promise of quality nails at a low low price. While you may be receiving a manicure and pedicure with definite affordability, by no means is this the place for quality. Your nails may look nice but the price itself comes when you realize that your nails may have been done using uninitialized tools and baths. Continue reading »

People come to you because you have proven to them that you know what you are talking about. You have taken the time to study and learn about inside secrets of nails, hand and foot care. They trust that you have taken the time to learn which products provide the best results for their particular problems or needs.

If you don’t retail manicure and pedicure products you are shortchanging your clients and literally yourself. Making money with retail is very easy! Continue reading »

The disinfection technique that we’re taught in beauty schools is usually complete and detailed. You know, we take our implements to the dispensary, turn on the warm water, then soap and brush our implements. Next, we rinse them, dry them and place them in the disinfection tray…yadayadayada. The problem: Successful nail technicians don’t have time to use a dispensary method for disinfection. Who has the time to go to the dispensary? So, many of us cheat on the technique. Worse, some don’t do it at all. So, what happens? Maybe “greenies” begin to appear on our clients. Or a few clients, concerned about our cleanliness and professionalism, begin to look around for another technician. Cleanliness is important to contemporary clientele. Whatever is happening, we need to find a way to clean up our act without constantly trekking to the dispensary. Continue reading »

20/20 Special Assignment:

They are everywhere:  nail salons offering  bargain prices.  But are they safe?  It’s a booming business.  But did you know you could get sick at one of these discount nail parlors, and also seriously hurt?

Of the nail salons investigated, (Fancy Nails, Hi-Teck Nails, LA Nails and others) the report revealed why your protection is not a priority.  The I-team had the video to prove it.

It’s a industry where thousands of women and men go to get pampered, but is your health in jeopardy while you are there?  The I-team went undercover to find out.  They discovered that many salons were using unsafe acrylic products containing MMA which causes allergic reactions and permanent damage to the nail bed.  They also discovered that these salons had not been inspected in the last 3 years, and if violations were cited, they were not fixed.  The I-team sent an agent over to a salon where manicurists are supposed to soak tools insanitation fluid.  But they noticed that the sanitation containers were empty.

The hidden camera caught the nail tech eating with her fingers without washing her hands.  She began working on the client while chewing her dinner.  The I-team also learned that the same tech was not licensed to do nails!  Just because there is a license posted behind the tech does not mean that it is that person!  Many of these salons are working under one licensce.  Only the salon owner is licensed, and the rest are often family members working under one that license.  Continue reading »
