Many of you are experiencing more cracking than usual.  This is due to the cold weather we have been experiencing.  Remember:  Cold dries!

Our skin always seems to be dryer in the winter than in the summer.  This is from the cold air.  The cold sucks up moisture from our bodies making it dryer than in the summer months.

This cold environment will cause the nails to crack more because they are so dry.  This will force you to come for repairs more than usual.

To prevent this from happening, you all need to be using your Solar oil more than you already do.  Continue reading »

Always use a basecoat or clear polish before applying a new nail color.
NEVER go without polish…The basecoat/clear helps to keep the seals down and keeps  them from drying out.
Use your oil EVERYDAY – several times a day.  This keeps moisture on the seals, keeps them from breaking, and in penetrated thru the acrylic right to the nail bed so that eactime you use it, your nails get stronger and healthier.  It also helps the acrylic to cure harder. Continue reading »

Use your SOLAR OIL several times a day.  The oil keeps moisture on the seals and
prevents them from lifting.  It also penetrates thru the acrylic and into your nail bed making the nails stronger with each use.  It will also help the acrylic to cure better.  Solar oil may also be used on other parts of the body where you are severely cracked, chapped, dry and/or bleeding…GOOD STUFF!!!

Never blow on your wet nails.  Your breath is hot.  Heat makes the polish bubble and tacky.  COLD drys.  (example:  you skin is dryer in the winter than it is in the summer.  This is because the cold sucks out all the moisture in your body leaving you severly cracked during the winter months versus the summer months).  Best polish dryer in the world is COLD WATER!

Read the ingredients of your nail polishes.  Watch for formaldehyde and alcohol.  These are extreamly drying and damaging to nails.  Most polishes have this, but just make sure that they are not in the top 4 on the list.  A lot of the professional polishes contain very little if any, so naturally, these are recommended,

Here are some tips to toughen or protect weak fingernails:
* Keep your nails short, square shaped and slightly rounded on top.
* Apply a nail hardener, but avoid products containing toluene sulfonamide, or formaldehyde. This chemical causes itchiness, redness and irritation of the skin. It also dries out the enhancements and causes broken seals and cracks.
* Apply a moisturizer each time you wash your hands. At bedtime, moisturize your nails and cuticles with Solar oil, and wear cotton gloves.
* Don’t use regular polish remover more than twice a month. Instead, touch up the polish. Acetone dries up the nails.
* Trim brittle nails after a bath or a 15 minute soak. Then apply a moisturizer.
* Repair split natural nails with glue or clear polish and a perm paper. Acrylic nails should be repaired my a nail technician. Continue reading »

Yellow nails seems to be a relatively common problem. Yellowing of the nails can be caused by many factors, and most of these have simple/effective solutions.
Causes of Yellowing nails:
1. Acrylic Nails - Acrylic often yellows naturally in time, but many other factors can add to the yellowing process. Acrylic products can cause yellowing, even if they say non-yellowing, they sometimes still do turn yellow.

2. UV Top coats – light and air cause oxidation causing the nails to turn a different color.
3. Lack of base coats – a good base coat is a must before polishing. Especially with darker colors. (reds for example) Without a proper base coat, the polish will stain the nail bed and sometimes leave a lighter colored film on the nail after using remover. This can be tricky getting the stainage off, so always use a good basecoat! Continue reading »
